Happy With MY Locs Today

I am so over the neatness of everything. I wear spandex so i don't have to iron clothes, and hardly wear much makeup anymore and of course my locs are freeform bedhead goodness: I love it! I was a Sisterlock(tm) diva at one time and proud of it actually. Got certified and all that and started out on my path to turn the views of natural hair being "unkept" on its heels. And here I am now and I couldn't care less of neat and order anything, and that includes my hair. I really love that I do not have to do anything to my hair that hurts.
No tools, no tight styling, no fuss man! Rock on.

Salkis Re "Freeform Locs"

These days I have scaled my care regimen all the way down to just water. I clean with hot water and go about my business. I was using the Whole Foods 365 shampoo at one time but I found that even that was causing some flaking and build up in my locs, so I stopped everything. Now my hair dries in about 3 hours and its ligt and fluffy all the time. No smell at all!.

This is mainly from me not using any oils. Oils trap sweat and dirt in the locs and make them impossible to get clean. Mold and mildew grow from the locs because the hair stays moist from the trapped oil. Ditch the oil and use leave in conditioners that are water based if you must have something.

Free Form Locs Journey 11th day!

bob marley locs
Free Form loc Journey
Well its day 11 of my free form loc journey and I am so anxious to get some resemblance to a loc. Right now it looks like an uneven afro. I am no applying any gels, waxes, oils of any kind. I want my locs to remain fluffy and free from dirt with oils attract.

I did do some hand rubbing when I washed my hair about 3 times and I didnt like how my hair was separating. It was to small and seemed like they could cause breakage. So I am backto just wash and go: Literally!

I am thinking of switching to rosemary/sage rinse instead of using shampooing my hair as often as I do which is almost everyday since I workout.

Talk with you soon :)

Free Form Locs and the case of "Handitis"

Ok so I have a few days into this so-called 'free form' loc journey and I can't seem to keep my hands out of my head! I'm constantly caressing my hair, feeling and touching it like its my first time ever seeing it! But I think it's because this time, with he free form method I'm doing, the 'no oil thing has allowed me to really feel what my hair is like.

I have never gone with out some time of moisturizer in my hair,. Even when I wore my sisterlocks I'd spray a little oil sheen on them for the shine effect. The fact that there are no parts in my hair, no 'grid pattern', no palm rolling..lawd this is going to be an exercise in patience for real. But yaay!, no PAIN! I can throw away everything product except for my shampoo and go about my business.

I guess I am lucky that I am a business owner and don't have to 'look' a certain way for the corporate world.. thinking.... Yep I am really grateful for that. So I am finding that I have to wash my hair everyday instead of the twice a week regimen I had planned to start (blame it on my yoga sweat!) And my hair is very dry and sponge-like but its so cool, lol So the plan is to update you all as I go through the changes, and definitely ever week... I can't wait till my locs look like some of my hair muses below.. Tootles :)

Started My new Set of Locs today!

Well its been almost 3 years since I cut off my sisterlocks and I do miss them sooo much. I don't think I'd ever get them again though. I am in a different place in my life and I want my hair to represent non conformity in every way possible. Thats why I decided to do semi free form locs this time around. I have never done this for myself before so this will be interesting to see the transformation process.
Some of the things I don not plan on doing is a lot of styling. When I had sisterlocks I styled my hair to death, I colored my hair every month, did all kinds of tight updos on a weekly basis. They were fun but my hair paid a price for all those perfect coifs. Now Im ready for big hair, less neatness more rasta vibe I guess.

Yaay My Dredlock Journey Starts Today Nov 2013
so my plan is to keep going with this semi free form because I really want my locs to look as thick as possible, my hair is thin but I have a lot of it, and it tends to shrink up like crazy so i know it will be a while before I see any visible length. Here goes....
